The Women's Environmental Council (WEC) supports women who are preparing to pursue careers in the environmental field.

In addition, recipients also receive a complimentary one-year WEC membership in the chapter county where they attend school. Scholarships are awarded at the WEC Annual Meeting in the first quarter of each year.

WEC Awards Six Scholarships in February 2008
WEC continued its scholarship program for the 6th year and awarded $1,200 each to six women
pursuing careers in the environmental field. Awarding scholarships has been a WEC goal for years and to be able to fulfill that goal is gratifying.
WEC received about 30 applications last year. All the applicants were so enthused in describing how their education and volunteerism are shaping their future career goals, making it really difficult to choose
only six winners. Clearly, we could have selected many worthy applicants.
The six winners represented San Diego (1), Orange County (2) and Los Angeles (3). Areas of study included marine science (a very popular field, as three of the recipients are focusing on this area of the
environment), public and environmental health, and biology. Applications for 2008-2009 are available by clicking on the link above, and completed applications are due by December 5, 2008 for award in the first
quarter of 2009.
WEC thanks everyone who contributed toward the scholarship program. Fundraising efforts will continue as we plan for the upcoming scholarships. Click the link above to make a donation to the WEC
Scholarship Fund. Finally, spread the word and support your chapters as they raise funds for worthy scholarship recipients.
