Scholarship/Internship Announcement from Other Organizations

ACWA Scholarship

The Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA) is proud to announce its newest academic scholarship for the 2008-'09 school year: The Water Law & Policy Scholarship in honor of former ACWA executive director, Steve Hall. This is a $7,000 award and is for graduate students who are majoring in law, policy or public administration and have a focus or concentration in water resources. More specifically they must be interested in California's water resources and desire to work in this state once they graduate. We hope you will be able to assist us by encouraging qualified students to apply for the award. Attached is an informational flier, the guidelines and the application that have gone out to all California universities as well as many national graduate schools. Please feel free to duplicate the materials as needed and distribute them. The deadline for filing an application is APRIL 1, 2008. Any application postmarked by that date will be considered.

Cal Poly Pomona Internship:

Fiscal Year 2008/2009 - Environmental Planning Student Intern. Candidate doesn't have to be a Cal Poly Ponoma student (can be a student at any recognized college or university). We need candidates in biological sciences, ecological sciences, environmental studies or sciences, geography, environmental law, etc. The work is now slated for assistance with San Diego Pipeline No. 6 and the Jensen Solids Handling projects. We will be looking around for other CIP projects in which to utilize the selected applicant

The Nature Center's 102.5 acre wildlife habitat is an island of serenity in the midst of the busy urban landscape. Sponsored by the Theodore Payne Foundation, callers to the free Wildflower Hotline are directed to when and where to see the best blooms from over 30 locations throughout Southern California. You can also visit their web site at www.theodorepayne.org/.

Down-by-the-River Walks
Friends of the Los Angeles River and the Sierra Club are sponsoring monthly walks along the banks of the LA River. Join them at 4:30 p.m. on the third Sunday of each month for an informal, leisurely, hour-long walk. Locations vary each month and some walks feature brief talks highlighting natural, historical, artistic, or political aspects of the River. (NOTE - Walks are canceled if it's raining). Upper Newport Bay Events
Newport Bay Naturalists and Friends lead kayak tours every Sunday and canoe tours every Saturday for a moderate fee. This non-profit organization also hosts free campfire programs throughout summer. In cooperation with the Boy Scouts of America, they are also leading twilight canoe tours around the bay and shark camps during the summer. Environmental Management Certificate at UCI Extension
If you're looking for upward mobility in the environmental field or just want to learn more about environmental management, you should look into taking courses or obtaining a Certificate in Environmental Management from UC Irvine Extension. Extended Education @ Cal State Fullerton
Earn a Certificate in Environmental Compliance
Get up-to-date on the laws that dictate environmental compliance as well as the permitting and reporting process in Cal State Fullerton Extension's Certificate in Environmental Compliance. The program was developed by university faculty, representatives from regulatory agencies, environmental consultants and environmental compliance managers from local industry.

Classes feature a practical, hands-on approach and instructors have extensive field experience. The nine courses in the program can be completed in two semesters.
